WWE Money In The Bank 2024 sparks controversy and heartbreak with wild show (2024)

Money In The Bank shook WWE to its core, with dramatic moments, heartbreaking announcements and more.

For the first time since Philadelphia hosted WrestleMania in April, the company hosted one of its monthly shows in familiar territory after consecutive PLEs in France, Saudi Arabia and Glasgow.

Fans in Toronto, Canada were treated to two of WWE’s most high risk and thrilling bouts, with both MITB Ladder Matches living up to the hype, and providing very different possibilities over the coming weeks.

As well as John Cena announcing his retirement plans (he’ll officially hang up his boots in December 2025 after an extensive farewell tour), the premium live event featured two title matches with a lot at stake.

The main event also provided plenty of chaos and shock value, with fans stunned as the event went off air.

Here’s everything that went down…

WWE Money In The Bank live results

What happened at WWE Money In The Bank 2024?

The men’s Money In The Bank ladder Match started the night, with LA Knight and Jey Uso in particular having the full backing of the crowd, and a smattering of ‘CM Punk’ chants as Drew McIntyre came out.

Early on, there were impressive high risk moments from Andrade and Carmelo Hayes, including a wild Spanish Fly from the rope onto a ladder in the middle of the ring which left both men writhing in pain.

In the end, McIntyre bounced back from a devastating loss at Clash At The Castle in Glasgow last month to claim the briefcase, while everyone involved here did their part to deliver something special.

Sami Zayn was tasked with defending the Intercontinental Championship against Bron Breakker, and the second generation rising star more than held his own against the veteran in a high energy title match.

His standing leap onto the apron and flying clothesline sent Sami over the announce table in a fantastic moment, but a few minutes later, the champ was able to retain with a Helluva Kick.

In a shock appearance, Trish Stratus introduced John Cena, who announced his retirement from WWE with WrestleMania 41 next year being his final one after a glittering 22-year career.

An already fantastic World Heavyweight Title match between Damian Priest and Seth Rollins took a chaotic turn when Drew McIntyre cashed in his MITB briefcase to make it a Triple Threat, only for CM Punk to turn up and spoil the party.

He decimated his rival, leaving things open for Priest to pick up another tainted win, which lets him hold onto his gold, rules out Rollins as a repeat challenger, and all but confirms Punk vs McIntyre for SummerSlam.

The women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match had a tall task living up to the high standard set by the men’s bout, but they may have surpassed it with a messy, brutal and enthralling match.

There were too many painful moments to even try to recap, but Chelsea Green was the shining star, moving seamlessly from comedy to daredevil, while her fall from the top of a ladder through two tables outside the ring will live long in the memory.

In the end, 2024 is Tiffy Time after Tiffany Stratton continued an epic rookie year by capturing the coveted briefcase.

The final match of the night was every bit the rollercoaster fans have come to expect from Bloodline matches, with a shock ending as Solo Sikoa pinned WWE Champion Cody Rhodes to secure the win for his team.
